How a 7-Team Bracket Works
Single elimination brackets are built on powers of two — 4, 8, 16, 32 — so a 7-team field plays inside a 8-slot draw. The missing slot becomes a first-round bye: the top seed skips round 1 and advances straight to the next round while everyone else plays in. Handing the bye to the strongest team is the standard convention — it rewards seeding and keeps the most lopsided first-round matchups off the schedule.
However the byes fall, the total game count never changes: every game eliminates exactly one team, and 7 teams means 6 eliminations — so a 7-team single elimination bracket is always 6 games. Add an optional third-place match and it's 7. If nobody in your event has a ranking, draw seeds at random; the structure above stays exactly the same.
