While some are complaning about knighthoods they think they should have had and others reflect on the 365 days of 2017....we'd like to take a couple of moments to thank those who have made contributions to our great Remain cause.
Actually this list is a tribute to a great number of those individuals who have ceaselessly worked to call out the Leave falsehoods, reflect intelligently on events, propose new perspectives and share their much needed expertise in any number of fields. I am pleased that we continue to have new entries to the list and I would like to thank them all sincerely for their continued efforts over the past year.
There have been a number of times in 2017 where I have seen how the energy, passion and intelligent action have helped move us all forward. Highlights for me included :
- the StopBrexit march in Manchester where the passion of the speakers there was both palpable and inspiring (speakers like Sue Wilson of Bremain in Spain, Bonnie Greer, the authors of In Limbo and even Alastair Campbell playing the Ode to Joy on the bagpipes!)
- attending a Best for Britain barnstorming event in North London where the tactical nous, patience and professionalism of the volunteers there resulted in an empowering evening and the creation of at least one new local grassroots group
- witnessing first hand the energy, determination and sincerity of the individuals who stood outside the Houses of Parliament in the freezing weather to lobby MPs to act with principle. It was both humbling and exciting to see how many decent, ordinary citizens had travelled so many miles to stand up and be counted. I spoke to people who had travelled from Liverpool, Manchester, Wales, Kent, the West country.
When I reflect on 2017 and the travesty, shame and tragedy that is Brexit it is episodes like these that reinforce my conviction that we will win in the end.
Happy New Year to all. We resist together
